The Vermillion Public Schools Foundation was founded in 2006 by citizens wishing to support the public education system in Vermillion, SD.  It is our belief that good public schools are the result of many people; teachers, administrators, parents and the general citizenry, all of whom understand that in today’s world, we can achieve more when working together in a public-private partnership. The motto of the VPSF is “To support opportunities for life-long learners in a diverse world.” That can best be accomplished together.

The VPSF allows citizens a tax-deductible means to directly support educational opportunities for Vermillion schoolchildren that cannot be funded by local, state, or federal dollars. The VPSF also works to enrich existing curricular, co-curricular and extra co-curricular programs with supplemental funding to create a learning environment that ensures our students are avid readers, logical thinkers, and creative writers.

The 5th Annual “Breakfast with Dr. Seuss” at Austin School

Austin Elementary first-graders, teachers, parents and volunteers celebrated Dr. Seuss’ 115th birthday last Friday, March 1, 2019. The students enjoyed, for the most part, their green eggs and ham. Many asked for second helpings.

The Austin first graders ate their meal while listening to a spirited reading of ““Green Eggs & Ham” given by Jackson Whitaker, a USD theater student. Each Austin student received their own book to take home. They also received a pair of “Thing One and Thing Two” socks to wear.

Thursday’s 5th Annual “Breakfast with Dr. Seuss” event was locally sponsored by the Vermillion Public Schools Foundation. Hy Vee provided the green eggs & ham, bananas and orange juice. The meal was served in the Austin School gym by Karen Davies, Wendy Nilson, Heidi Fowler, Susan Curtin and Lynne Day. Financial support was provided by the Vermillion Rotary, the Edith Siegrist Charitable Trust and the VPS Foundation.
